As the world is opening back up and people are taking vacations again, one place you may consider going is Disney World (read about our experience here and here). But if you want to completely immerse yourself in the rides, one of the best things to do is watch the movies associated with each ride. So what if you’ve never been to Disney World? How do you know which movies to watch? Read on to find out the best Disney movies to watch before going to Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.

Fantasyland

Disney World is divided into 5 different areas. Since Cinderella’s Castle is the center of Disney World, Cinderella is a MUST watch! My favorite area is Fantasyland, so we always head there first. Plus it fills up pretty quickly in the mornings because this is where all of the parents with little kids go first. (I guess I’m still a little kid at heart!) So what movies do you need to watch to be familiar with the rides in this area? Here’s a quick list.

Doesn’t it look like you’re under the sea with Aerial? The rides are amazing!

Tomorrowland

Next up is Tomorrowland. It is located on the same side of the park as Fantasyland. Here are the movies to watch that go along with rides in this land.

We had a blast defeating evil on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.

Adventureland

Then we always head over to Adventureland. Adventureland is located on the opposite side of the park as Tomorrowland and Fantasyland. Here you can find Aloha Isle, where Disney’s famous Dole Whips are served. Here are the movies to check out before heading to this area:

The Country Bear Jamboree takes me back to being a little kid. So fun!

Frontierland

Last on our Magic Kingdom stop is Frontierland. You’ll only find two rides over in Frontierland, but they are two VERY popular rides. The first ride is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. And the second ride is Splash Mountain (which I’ve read that they’re redoing).

  • Song of the South (until they redo Splash Mountain) Unless you already have this one, good luck finding it. Maybe just be familiar with Brier Rabbit.

Liberty Square

There aren’t really any movies associated with Liberty Square. But it’s still a stop you don’t want to miss. You can take a relaxing ride on the Liberty Square Riverboat, see a replica of the Liberty Bell, learn about our nation’s Presidents at The Hall of Presidents, and enjoy some tasty food.

The Hall of Presidents show makes a nice air conditioned stop.

Cartoons to be familiar with

Of course it will also help you to be familiar with the classic Disney characters like Donald, Pluto, Goofy, Daisy, Mickey, and Minnie. If you have a Disney princess lover in your family, then you should know those also. Because you just never know when you might catch a glimpse of Cinderella.

There she is!!!!! And Prince Charming too!

Do you have to watch all of these movies to enjoy a trip to Disney World’s Magic Kingdom? Absolutely not! But our family did find that being familiar with them made the rides much more magical. So pick and choose what you want to watch. Maybe base it on your must do rides or favorite movies. Then sit back and enjoy all those magical details in the rides that no one does better than Disney!
