The Inspiration

Ever since my boys were little and have known that a place called Disney World existed, they have wanted to go. (and every since their Momma has been little she has wanted to go too) That dream finally came true in 2019 when our family visited Walt Disney World for the first time. There is so MUCH amazingly yummy food to pick from in Disney World. Heck, I’d even take a trip and willingly ruin my diet just to do nothing else but try all of their food. I think it’s fair to say that each person in our family found their own favorite thing to eat at Disney. But one thing we all had in common was our absolute LOVE of the waffles at Disney. I don’t know if it’s the Disney magic that made them so good or what. But what I do know is that when we got home, I HAD to recreate that recipe. So my family became my willing guinea pigs as I researched, created, and tested recipe after recipe.

My oldest enjoying a Mickey waffle with ice cream. There are seriously so many ways to eat them!

The Perfect Recipe

I tried 3 different recipes and read TONS of articles about what makes the perfect Disney waffle. As I eagerly tried each recipe, I was disappointed when that first bite still didn’t taste the same as our waffles at Disney. So what did I do? I did what any seasoned cook does, and I came up with my own recipe!

Step 1

I kept reading over and over that lots of theme parks and hotels use this pancake and waffle mix. So I set off to order it.

Step 2

Once you have your hands on Carbon’s Golden Malted Pancake & Waffle Flour, now the fun begins. Measure out 2 cups of the Carbon’s Golden Malted Pancake & Waffle Flour.

I love to use my KitchenAid measuring cups. They’re so sturdy!

Step 3

Add 4 tablespoons of sugar to your waffle mix.

Step 4

Add 2 teaspoons of Clabber Girl Baking Powder to the dry ingredients.

Step 5

Now you need to get a separate bowl to mix your wet ingredients. Melt 4 tablespoons of salted butter.

You can use unsalted butter if you don’t have salted butter. I like to use salted butter so that I don’t have to add salt later.

Step 6

Measure 1 1/4 cups milk. Put in the bowl with the butter. You can use whatever kind of milk you have in the refrigerator. I used 1% for this recipe.

I’ve had this Anchor Hocking measuring cup since we got married 16 years ago!

Step 7

Beat two eggs into the wet ingredients.

Step 8

Add 2 teaspoons vanilla extract to your bowl of wet ingredients.

This is the BEST vanilla in the world! My kids love to just smell the bottle when I open it, the goofballs! But I can’t say that I blame them.

Step 9

Mix your wet ingredients in with your dry ingredients. Stir.

My mother-in-law gave me this mixing bowl 20 years ago. I absolutely LOVE the size! I can mix anything in it.

Step 10

Preheat your waffle maker. Once it is preheated, spray with a nonstick cooking spray. I like the benefits of coconut oil (It’s tasteless and healthy!), but use whatever you have on hand.

Step 11

Depending on the size of your waffle maker, measure out 1/4-1/2 cup of waffle batter into each spot on your waffle maker. Cook until golden.

We’ve had this waffle maker for the 16 years that we’ve been married. It’s totally worth the investment. It’s outlived our other cheap waffle makers by a long shot!

Step 12-The BEST step

Load with your favorite toppings, and ENJOY all of that amazing yummy goodness! My husband likes these with peanut butter. My youngest likes these with Nutella. And my oldest likes these covered with fruit and syrup like his Momma.

Just look at how the syrup fills each of the crevices. YUM!

As any Disney lover knows, hidden Mickeys are part of the fun. And look what we found hiding on our counter when we were cleaning up. It’s like Mickey Mouse himself was telling us we got the recipe right. In the words of my 11 year old, “That’s pretty cool!”

Our very own hidden Mickey dripped onto the counter when we were making our waffles. It’s almost like Mickey himself is telling us this is the perfect recipe.
